Maori mountain mover moves on
The innovative chief executive of Ruapehu iwi Ngati Rangi is stepping down.
Che Wilson says it time for a change of leader because the iwi needs to move to a new stage.
He says he’s a big picture person, and the time has come to fill in the details.
His replacement is current WEL Energy Trust chief executive Andy Gowland-Douglas, who has a background in community development.
Mr Wilson says highlights have been Ngati Rangi’s transformation plan for the district, the white ribbon campaign against domestic violence, environmental advocacy and progress on settling Treaty of Waitangi land claims.
He intends to focus on working on Maori land development.
