Sustainable budget
National MP Claudette Hauiti says the budget shows the National-Maori Party coalition is doing more for Maori than Labour ever did.
Ms Hauiti says the budget shows a long term vision of sustainable progress.
She says National has done 69 treaty settlements in five years, compared with the six Labour did in its nine years in Government.
That gives Maori a sense of hope, and they don’t need politicians telling them what to think.
" Maori know whats good for them, iwi know whats good for them and they define their own rangatiratanga and they define their own motuhake, but we are still getting some patronising view by the opposition that they know what motuhake is for each iwi and each hapu when in fact it is contextual " she says.
Claudette Hauiti says the move of tribes into social housing is giving many Maori families the prospect of home ownership.
