Ope takes Maxwell to new job

The new chief executive of Maori Television started work today, with his Te Arawa iwi turning out in numbers to show their whole-hearted support for his appointment.
Paora Maxwell got the job after a drawn-out selection process and claims of political interference.
Even before starting he accompanied Maori Television executives to a Lake Rotoiti Marae to apologise to Ngati Pikiao for the insulting treatment of a performer captured in a 50 Haka Moments episode.
Trevor Maxwell from Ngati Rangiwewehi, who is a first cousin to Mr Maxwell’s father, says the iwi are immensely proud of his achievements and a large number came up from Rotorua to accompany him into his new workplace.
"We’ve followed him over the years and hes had all the credentials to earn this position and he is a fighter. Personally I think he is going to do a tremendous job in there," he says.
Mr Maxwell says the new MTV boss got loosened up for the job by joining the Ngati Rangiwewehi pakeke at the Te Arawa regional kapa haka competition on the weekend.
