Election talk spells end of talkback
Maori Party co-leader Te Ururoa Flavell has signed off his weekly talkback radio show.
Te Mangai Nui, which was networked to other iwi radio stations, has been running for several years on Radio Te Arawa.
But the Waiariki MP says the advice he got was that it couldn’t continue once the September 20 election was announced.
"If I was challenged by other candidates going for the seat, they could suggest I was utilising the facility to put my own spin and the Maori Party spin on things. I’ve tried the best I can to stay down the middle but unfortunately in politics those things can happen and I could possibly lose my seat if I was found to be compromised and the advice I got was that it was too close to the line so I decided to err on the side of caution and give it away, unfortunately. I really enjoyed it," Mr Flavell says.
