Shane Reti to contest Whangarei
Whangarei doctor Shane Reti has beaten sitting list MP Paul Foster Bell to win the National Part nomination for Whangarei.
The seat, which has been opened up with the retirement of Phil Heatley, is considered a National Party stronghold.
Dr Reti recently returned to the city after a distinguished career overseas.
In Napier the battle to contest the seat vacated by Chris Tremain was won by Wayne Walford, the chief executive of Hawke's Bay Chamber of Commerce.
He faces a tough race against Labour’s Stuart Nash, who has been campaigning in the seat since losing it last election.
