Central Otago names confirmed

Four names chosen by Ngai Tahu for alpine features in Central Otago have passed the final hurdle before being gazetted.
Land Information Minister Maurice Williamson says he has accepted the recommendations from the New Zealand Geographic Board for Lake Te Kohua, Mount Tuwhakaroria and Tapuae-o-Uenuku / Hector Mountains.
The names were developed in consultation with the iwi and Central Otago District Council after Mr Williamson rejected an earlier proposal to assign the name Te Kohua to a peak.
There were no opposing submissions on a fourth name, Te Karearea Peak, so this was assigned directly by the board without reference to the minister.
Tapuae-o-Uenuku is a major alpine range running north-south along the southern arm of Lake Wakatipu.
