Rarua opts out of health coalition
Attempts to create a single Maori health service for the top of the South Island have struck another hurdle, with Blenheim's Te Hauora O Ngati Rarua deciding to go it alone.
Services in the region are still in a state of flux after the failure last year of the largest Maori provider, Te Rapuora.
Nelson Marlborough District Health Board wants Maori providers to work in a coalition from next July.
But Ngati Rarua’s chair Rod Bird says the proposed coalition lacks a shared vision or values, and his organisation was not willing to compromise its standards.
