Whenua, whakapapa and whanau at FOMA hui
The Federation of Maori Authorities holds its annual hui in Hastings this weekend.
The FOMA conference has become a highlight of the year for Maori land trusts and incorporations, and attracts heavyweight speakers.
This year delegates will hear from the likes of Ngai Tahu kaumatua Sir Tipene O’Regan, Federated Farmers chief executive Conor English, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise chief executive Peter Chrisp and Ian Taylor from Animation Research, the 2013 Maori business leader of the year.
On the agenda is the future of the Maori economy, unlocking Maori in the primary sector, Maori leadership and the benefit of members entering the Ahuwhenua Trophy competition for Maori farming excellence.
Chair Traci Houpapa says the hui is focused on whenua, whakapapa and whanau, the cornerstones of Maori wealth and wellbeing.
