Positive start to party talks
Mana and Maori Party officials have held the first meeting in what is an attempt to develop ways of working together on common platforms.
Mana president Annette Sykes says last night’s meeting between executive members was a good start and more are planned.
She says they were able to identify areas where an independent Maori voice is needed in parliament.
"I think there was an agreement that child poverty, like our feed the kids strategies, unemployment and housng are significant issues that we can work together on, and I'm pleased to say that over the next few weeks there will be meetings to explore how that can be done," Ms Sykes says.
Future meetings will also discuss whether the parties will cooperate during the election.
