Tairawhiti firms top awards
Four East Coast Maori businesses have been recognised by their mainstream peers in the annual Gisborne Westpac Business Excellence Awards.
A new Maori category was won by Radio Ngati Porou.
Chief executive Erana Keelan-Reedy says she took the opportunity to promote Radio Ngati Porou’s advertising and sponsorship packages to all the businesses at the awards ceremony.
Whangara Farms, a former Ahuwhenua Trophy winner, took out the primary industry award.
Accommodation Ahi Kaa won the micro-excellence award.
The community services award went to Turanga Health, which in 14 years has gone from having 10 clients and two contracts with the regional health authority to having more than 3000 clients and 60 staff including 11 nurses and one contracted GP.
Chief executive Reweti Ropiha says his organisation’s distinctively Maori kaupapa and delivery framework made it an effective deliverer of health and disability services services to its mainly Maori clients.
