Te Tumu Paeroa – the new Maori trustee, has distributed $58,000 worth of study scholarships to 52 descendants of Maori soldiers.
The money comes from Hereheretau Station near Wairoa, which was bought in 1952 by the Maori Soldiers Trust.
Registry officer Maika Bennett says this year many of the scholarships went to students over 30 years old, many of them parents.
The most popular field of study was medicine and health, and the most popular places of study were Auckland, Hamilton and Rotorua.
