Expert panel to tackle family violence
Former Women’s Refuge chief executive Merepeka Raukawa-Tait and lawyer and researcher Dr Huhana Hickey have been appointed to a new Expert Advisory Group on Family Violence.
The group will be chaired by retired Family and District Court judge Paul von Dadelszen.
It also includes Families Commissioner Dr James Prescott, the co-director of the New Zealand Family Violence Clearinghouse Dr Janet Fanslow, Family Violence Death Review Committee chair Julia Tolmie, Everdina Fuli from the Pacific advisory group of the Taskforce for Action on Violence within Families, Waikato community organiser Jane Stevens and Associate Professor Peter Adams from Auckland University’s School of Population Heath.
The Associate Social Development Minister, Tariana Turia, says the members were chosen not just for their expertise but for their commitment to action.
She says the group will provide independent strategic advice to help the Government decide what it should do to tackle family violence.
