Kahungunu tāonga back in Bay
A hei tiki believed to be owned by the ancestor Kahungunu has arrived at Napier's new Museum, Theatre, Gallery for display in the opening exhibition.
Te Arawhiti has been loaned by Whanganui Museum.
Other loan items for the Ukaipo-ō-tātou whakapapa exhibition include a pou tokomanawa wahine from Te Papa with links to Wairoa.
Tāonga which have been in storage since the old museum closed will also be shown in a new light, such as the four pou tokomanawa salvaged from a house at Pakowhai near Napier which was destroyed by fire in 1896. The museum will open on September 21.
