Taranaki artists called home

Twenty five leading contemporary Māori artists who whakapapa back to Taranaki have answered the call home.
Call of Taranaki: Reo Karanga ō Taranaki opens today at Puke Ariki Museum in New Plymouth, running alongside the Taranaki International Arts Festival.
It’s curated by former Pataka director Darcy Nicholas of Te Atiawa, whose own work is often about the mountain and ancestral connections.
Other prominent artists represented include Rangi Kipa, Hemi Sundgren, Rose White-Tahuparae, Pip Devonshire, Veranoa Hetet, Ngaahina Hohaia, Star Gossage, and Gabrielle Belz.
The exhibition encompasses sculpture, weaving, mixed media, photography, clay and painting. It runs until November.
