Hastings Civic Square has met its new residents.
At dawn today 18 totara pou depicting ancestors from 18 Heretaunga marae were unveiled and blessed.
Project organiser Tama Huata says the pou will become permanently sited as part of Hastings District Council's $8.5 million redevelopment of the square.
People would be able to learn the history of each pou by scanning QR codes into their smartphones.
