AUT to boost Manukau campus
Maori Affairs and associate Education Minister, Pita Sharples, is welcoming expansion of AUT University’s Manukau campus.
Just under 1000 students now use the campus to study business, education, health sciences and arts topics.
The Government want to boost that to 3000 by 2020, with getting more Maori and Pacific Island students a priority.
It means students will be able to complete their degrees in south Auckland, rather than the current set up where they do their first two years of study in Manukau and then transfer to the central city campus to complete their courses.
Dr Sharples says AUT has done well since opening up in the former Carter Holt Harvey headquarters in 2010.
"They’ve got programmes out there that enable our people out there in southside to have choices in their own back yard and that’s really important so that’s another milestone in our development," Dr Sharples says.
