Indigenous issues for conference

Indigenous scholars from around the world are gathering in Hamilton this weekend for the first indigenous research conference run by the University of Waikato's Te Kotahi Research Institute.
Spokesperson Herearoha Skipper says He Manawa Whenua will feature more than 150 individual presentations, with many focusing on how research can drive activism and change in communities.
She says indigenous academics are concerned about how the institutions they work in can perpetuate colonialism.
"We are looking at getting our academics and community researchers to look at other ways of doing not only business, lifestyles and everything that is more appropriate for our indigenous peoples across the world," Ms Skipper says.
