Incubator voyage for land trusts
A business incubator is offering its experience to boost the returns of land trusts in the central North Island.
The Icehouse has teamed up with the Waiariki Institute of Technology in Rotorua to offer the Māori Trustees Programme.
Shay Wright, its head of Māori development, says The Icehouse is aware that Māori and especially whānau and iwi business may have different characteristics to other business.
He says the pilot programme uses the concept of the preparations needed for a waka hauora journey.
"So the first is about claiming your waka or knowing your particular role as a governor. Then it's looking at where is your waka going, what is your vision, your goals, what strategy are you using to get there and how do you measure your performance. Then there is who is on that waka , and that is where we look at the split between management and governance, how do you build the right team, what skills are you looking for in each of those roles, and then how do you keep your waka on course and afloat," he says.
Mr Wright says The Icehouse was looking to partner with local businesses to create a business hub in Rotorua.
