Family want answers on golf course shooting

A spokesperson for the family of the Waitara man shot and killed by police at the New Plymouth Golf Course says they just want to know what happened.
The coroner has reported the 32-year-old Adam Te Rata Morehu died of gunshot wounds, after an initial attempt by police to bring him down with a taser failed because of the thick clothing he was wearing.
Police encountered Mr Morehu at the course early on Saturday morning after responding to burglar alarms.
John Niwa says the family sees’ no similarities between this case and the police shooting of Steven Wallace in Waitara in 2000, but it’s unclear as yet what did happen.
"The bottom line for the family is they want the truth, regardless, about what happened and how it happened," he says.
Mr Niwa says the family is cocooned in love and aroha, and it has also taken on a legal advisor to help it through the investigations.
He nui ngā pātai ā te whānau
