Educator Dick Grace dies
Educator, writer and cultural expert Dick Grace is being mourned as a greatly respected kaumatua, advisor and advocate for mātauranga Māori.
Māori Party Co-leaders Tariana Turia and Pita Sharples says Mr Grace, of Ngati Porou, died on Friday evening.
The husband of acclaimed author Patricia Grace, Mr Grace wrote several children’s books and historical works, including stories of growing up at Tuparoa on the East Coast.
He was an advisor to government departments, kura and schools, and developed guidelines for treaty-based approaches to policy.
