Education Minister, Hekia Parata, is welcoming a boost in Māori achievement in NCEA.
The final NCEA results from 2013 show 68 per cent of 16 year-olds achieved NCEA Level 2 last year, up 2 per cent.
The Māori rate also increased 2 percent from 52 to 54 percent, with 5,857 of the 10,841 16 year-old Māori students making the grade.
Ms Parata says the qualification means better opportunities for further education, employment, health outcomes and an improved quality of life generally.
