Tainui still waiting for chair
Tainui’s Te Kauhanganui has again, failed, to elect a new leader.
Acting chair, Tukoroirangi Morgan, who is the Māori king’s appointee on the tribal parliament, says after two rounds of voting on the weekend no candidate had gained the required support of 34 mārae.
Nominations will be re-opened when the election resumes in the May session.
The vacant position on the executive, Te Arataura, was also left vacant.
The fact the election was held indicates that a mediation session on Friday will not open the door for the former chair, Tania Martin, to return.
Mrs Martin was ousted for bringing the tribe into disrepute.
