Taiaha for pool table face off
Traditional Māori and Polynesian weaponry provided the inspiration for a show now on at the Mangere Arts Centre.
Artists Rangituhia Hollis and Vaimaila Urale looked at tāonga in the Auckland War Memorial Museum before creating the exhibit.
Mata Mata, which translates as “face off”, features four full size pool tables which are played using cues bases on Taiaha and Samoan weapons.
Urale says visitors are invited to select the weapon of their choice and challenge their friends to a game.
"I'm really interested in challenging audiences' ideas of what art is," she says.
The exhibit runs until 7th of February.
