Darryn George picked for Venice art sideshow
Ngāpuhi artist Darryn George is booking his ticket to next year's Venice Biennale.
While New Zealand’s official representative to one of the art world’s premier events is Paris-based light sculptor Bill Culbert, George has been invited to be part of a collateral show in the 15th century Palazzo Bembo near the Rialto Bridge on the Grand Canal.
He intends to create a meditational space lined with high-gloss black panels featuring a series of small geometric insets, under a white ceiling constructed from white sheeting placed beneath ranks of fluorescent lights to give the impression of a cloud of mist. George is head of art at Christ's College in Christchurch.
