One of Māoridom’s senior artists is looking forward to exploring ancient stories now he’s given up his day job.
Darcy Nicholas has managed community services at Porirua City Council for 19 years, including 14 as acting director of the Pataka Art Museum.
He says he has been collecting stories of Polynesian origins for four decades, including from Asia and North and South America, which he’d like to incorporate into his painting and writing.
He’s also looking at setting up a venture with his son James to promote Māori art in Japan.
