Archbishop of Canterbury visits Maori King
A leading Anglican says the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, is a man of rare courage.
Dr Williams is in New Zealand to attend his last major event as the church's world leader, the 15th Anglican Consultative Council.
This morning he is visiting Turangawaewae Marae, where he will meet King Tuheitia.
Jenny Te Paa, the tikanga Maori dean at St John's Theological College in Auckland, says as well as speaking out on church matters, the Archbishop has taken stands on the environment and on violence towards women, including violence perpetrated by clergy.
A highlight of Dr Williams' trip so far has been his officiating at the unveiling of the headstone of his friend and colleague Sir Paul Reeves.
