Cannibal comedy not for faint hearted
Screenwriter Briar Grace Smith says her new film is not for the faint hearted but it's lots of fun.
Fresh Meat, which opens in cinemas round the country today, stars Temuera Morrison as the head of a Māori family whose home is taken over by a gang of criminals who discover too late that their hosts are cannibals.
Grace-Smith says when producer Dave Gibson asked her to write a horror movie, she looked for ways to make it a New Zealand story – and to do it her way.
"It's a lot more comedy than horror so I went along with my husband and three of our children and we laughed most of the time but there is a lot of blood so it is not for the faint hearted," she says.
