Water hui to bring motu together
A leading member of the Kingitanga says tomorrow’s national water hui at Turangawaewae Marae was the right way to ensure all Maori can be heard.
The hui includes presentations from claimants, iwi and the New Zealand Maori Council, as well as time for politicians to put their party positions.
Mamae Takerei says King Tuheitia wants to bring the motu together.
"It is about someone getting up there and opening the doors to discuss this with our people. A five minute hui that John Key proposes is a snub. How often can he get away with just dealing with a minority when the whole motu has a right," she says.
Mamae Takerei says all Maori have inherited the responsibility from their ancestors to look after water.
