Literacy Waikato wants to give young single Maori mothers the skills to break the cycle of long term dependence.
Coordinator Louise Gaastra says the new Te Manu programme will provide individual mentoring, and ongoing pastoral support to help improve literacy levels.
There will also be lessons in financial literacy, health, parenting, preparation for study and employment, self esteem, grooming, driver’s licence, improving children’s literacy, and craft.
Te Puni Kokiri is funding the programme, with room for 20 places.
