Sallies call for compassion in Budget
The Salvation Army is asking for compassion in tomorrow’s Budget.
Director Ian Hutson says the promised tax cuts won’t reach beneficiaries, who include many of the most vulnerable families.
He wants to see a plausible plan to address child poverty, as well as a rethink on harsher sanctions on beneficiaries and restricting access to food grants.
“We’ve seen some of that in recent times within our own services where it appears Work and Income isn’t giving some of the grants they used to give and we think in a cost of living crisis and increasing numbers of people being unemployed we really are calling for the Government to show some compassion in this Budget because otherwise we are going to see even more misery than we see at the moment,” Mr Hutson says.
