Smoke screen for tax cut funding
Greens co-leader Marama Davidson says the Government’s intention to repeal anti-smoking legislation feels blatantly racist .
She says it knows Māori are disproportionately impacted by the harm of smoking, especially Māori women.
She fears it marks a retreat from supporting kaupapa Māori approaches to smoking cessation and health services, which are what works for Māori.
“This is because they didn’t get their tax revenue gains in other stupid areas like allowing overseas investors to stockpile our houses in Aotearoa again so now they are trying to look for that revenue to fund their tax cuts for their wealthy mates,” Ms Davidson says.
