Gentle hands will wield the scalpel.
National Party health spokesperson Shane Reti is promising to shut down Te Aka Whai Ora – the Māori Health Authority gently and with respect.
He says it every member of the likely three-party coalition partner had disestablishing Te Aka Whai Ora in its manifesto.
“That will be done gently and with great care and with great respect and we want to propose and alternative that is more effective and that will deliver the outcome that Maori need so it will be with gentle hands and with consideration as we disestablish the Māori Health Authority,” Dr Reti says.
He says the new Government will move quickly on a memorandum of understanding with Waikato University and Waikato Tainui to establish a new medical school the first intake of 120 students in 2027.
