Māori tech ropu on recruiting drive
The founder of Te Matarau – the Māori Tech Association – says visibility is the key to get more Māori into the technology industry.
Lee Timutimu says only about 4 percent of the tech workforce is Maori.
One way to address that is taking past in events like last week’s Tomorrow Expo in Auckland and this week’s TechWeek23 online sessions.
“It was an opportunity to have a voice, to be represented and that’s why we were at the Tomorrow Expo, to show our people we’re and we’re here to support them in whatever aspirations they have in tech and we’re just trying to inspire the next generation as well to join us,” Mr Timutimu says.
