Taonga puoro collaboration offering marae journey
A taonga puoro master is this weekend unveiling a new composition for traditional Māori instruments and orchestra.
He Aho Rōreka is a collaboration between Horomona Horo and composer Jeremy Mayall with the Orchestra Central Trust Ensemble.
Horo says it’s an attempt to describe musically the journey on to a marae.
“It will take you on a journey with a whole range of puoro from the tumutumu, the putatara, korutu, pupu harakeke, pukaea, a while range of puoro through to an ensemble of classical musicians sharing a story of visiting a marae and the aroha and feeling of whanau that you get,” Horo says.
He Aho Rōreka will be performed at The Plaza in Putaruru tomorrow evening and at Kimihia School in Huntly on Sunday at 2pm.
