Too early for post-Covid parties says Papakura doc
A South Auckland GP is concerned at the amount of partying she saw over Easter once Covid restrictions came down.
Dr Matire Harwood from the Papakura Marae heath practice says the move to the Orange traffic light system doesn’t mean the end of all precautions.
The disease is still spreading in the community, and people should be concerned about unexpected deaths and the effects of the virus on children.
“We don’t know the extent of long Covid with children and their learning outcomes, their socialisation, the idea there may be adverse events happening around them with Covid, for instance loved ones passing, so I do worry about our children getting Covid but also other whānau around them getting it and becoming very unwell as well,” she says.
Dr Harwood says many people feel a need to get back to work, but they need to make sure they are fully recovered from Covid before they do so.
