Covid clinic for Kiingitanga Day
It’s Kiingitanga Day at the University of Waikato and the university has added a drive through vaccination clinic to the proceedings.
The clinic is available to all students, staff and the community but its priority is raising vaccination rates amongst Māori and Pacific students.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor Māori, Sarah-Jane Tiakiwai, says it’s inspired by the words of Kiingi Tuheitia; “Amohia ake te ora o te iwi, ka puta ki te whei ao! The care of the people is paramount, we will get through this.”
This initiative is a collaboration between kaupapa Māori health provider Ngā Miro Health Centre, K’aute Pasifika, the Waikato District Health Board and the university.
Ngaa Miro, which is based at Tuurangawaewae Marae, is also running a mobile vaccination drive across the halls of residence.
