Rangitane uri protest settlement push
Members of Rangitane ki Manawatu are accusing the Waitangi Tribunal of bowing to the directives of the government by refusing to investigate the settlement being imposed on them.
Iwi members met with their local MP Tariana Turia on Sunday to air their concerns about the negotiations between the Office of Treaty Settlements and a Palmerston North Urban Maori organisation, Tanenuiarangi Manawatu Incorporated.
They say their right to be heard by the tribunal is being denied by judge Stephanie Milroy.
Brigitte Te Awe Awe-Bevan says traditional leaders of Rangitane have been ignored by the Government.
She says Tanenuiarangi Manawatu has now inserted Ngāti Tauira into the draft settlement, even though it is a hapū of neighbouring Ngāti Apa, which has already had a settlement.
The hui asked Mrs Turia to convey their concerns to Treaty Negotiations Minister Chris Finlayson.
