Turia believes support holding against Mana onslaught
Māori Party co-leader Tariana Turia believes the party can hold on to current levels of support despite continued attack from Mana leader Hone Harawira.
Less than 80 mainly elderly members were at the party's annual meeting at Papawai Marae near Greytown on the weekend, and they heard there are now fewer than 1000 financial members.
Mrs Turia says despite that the party is in good heart, even with the attacks from its former MP.
"When Hone left he made disparaging comments about the party. That has continued and it influences voters when you have somebody out there bagging a political movement, but generally we are finding those who have supported us from day one, the majority of them and I am talking about 90 percent of them, continue to support us.
Tariana Turia says from the Māori Party's workload and its achievements in parliament, it's clearly showing its continued commitment to work for Māori.
