Māori Rugby League takes on residents
The New Zealand Māori Rugby League team gets a rare outing as it takes on a New Zealand Residents side at Mount Smart Stadium on Sunday.
League chair Howie Tamati says the match will be boosted by the New Zealand Rugby League allowing eligible Kiwis to play for the Māori team if they wanted.
He says most of the players were part of last weekend’s annual tournament in Rotorua, a five 60-minute game format which was eventually won by Te Rarawa, so fatigue may be their biggest problem.
The match will be the first time the new team strip is worn.
The main match at 2.30pm on Sunday will be broadcast by Māori Television and Sky TV.
