An organiser of a national hui for Māori nursing students says while more Māori are training, many of them end up working overseas because of lack of jobs in New Zealand.
About 130 Māori student nurses are attending the hui in Nelson this week.
Hemaima Hughes says they are seeing some of the latest research as well as hearing from people working in traditional Māori medicine.
She says because many district health boards have an effective hiring freeze, many nurses’ head for Australia to find work once they finish their training.
