Ngai Tahu buys trees
Ngai Tahu has bought the cutting rights to 22,800 hectares of exotic forests on land it owns on the West Coast.
The land came back as part of its treaty settlement and had been managed by Ngai Tahu Forest Estates, with Crown Forestry contunuing to own the trees.
Ngai Tahu Property chair Barry Bragg says combining the forest and land investments under single ownership and management makes sense.
He says maintaining a sustainable West Coast forest and wood processing industry is aligned with the commercial and social interests of Ngai Tahu.
