Tiki Taane takes aim at disposable pop
Singer Tiki Taane says he's glad to have shone a light on some of the sharp business practices of X-factor.
Taane posted an open letter to producers ahead of this week's episode telling them to stop using his name to promote the TV talent show without his consent.
The show tried to make out it was sour grapes over him not getting a judging spot, but he says the kaupapa of the show was not good.
He says it is unlikely to lead to career success.
"Most of them will get extremely exploited in the first year and if they don't make the numbers and sell the units they will get put on the back burner and forgotten about and i don't think that's fair, i don't think that's what music is about and i was sticking up for my rights and also the rights of those who are involved as well," he says.
Tiki Taane unveils his new work in Christchurch this month.
Tiki Taane Mahuta is a collaboration with Tanemahuta Gray and combines aerial theatre, contemporary dance, haka and hip hop.
