Ngai Tahu beefs up Whenua Kura course
Students doing Ngai Tahu’s Whenua Kura farm training programme will from next year be able to come away with not just a dairy faming certificate but can also study for Lincoln University’s Diploma in Agriculture.
Programme manager Renata Hakiwai says it’s all part of a plan to produce not just farm workers but Maori who can eventually manage the family farm.
He says the partnership with Lincoln allows Whenua Kura to combine a Maori and mainstream curriculum.
Renata Hakiwai says Whenua Kura is not just open to Ngai Tahu, and Mr Hakiwai says many North Island iwi are sending their rangatahi to study.
