Wonderful voice of Toni Williams silenced
Maori musicians are remembering one of the nicest guys in show business, Toni Williams, who died on Saturday in his 77th year.
Billy Peters from the Maori Volcanics first saw the Rarotongan-born crooner at Auckland’s Ghandi Centre in the early 1960s.
He says Mr Williams had an extraordinary rapport with fellow musicians and audience alike.
"You connected with the guy. When you went to watch him, it was like he was singing to you and to her and to him, and with that wonderful voice he had, he could really charm the ladies and make you aspire to be like him," Mr Peters says.
Toni Williams was made a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2010 for services to entertainment.
