Higgins and Hape complete Te Matawai line-up
Maori Development Minister Hon Te Ururoa Flavell has appointed academic Rawinia Higgins and experienced director Robin Hapi to the last two seats on Te Matawai.
Professor Higgins, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Maori) at Victoria University, was a member of the Maori Language Advisory Group that led to the creation of the new entity to lead the revitalisation of te reo Maori on behalf of iwi
She’s an acknowledged expert in the field.
Mr Hape is a former chair of Aotearoa Fisheries and current chair of the council of Te Wananga o Raukawa, as well as sitting on the boards of Callaghan Innovation, North Island Whanau Ora Commissioning Agency Te Pou Matakana and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.
Mr Flavell says iwi and Maori have already selected 11 highly skilled and experienced members for Te Matawai and he expects dynamic and inspiring plans to emerge.
The other members are Waihoroi Shortland, Pania Papa, Bentham Ohia, Cathy Dewes, Jeremy Tatere Macleod, Ruakere Hond, Nuki Takao, Mereana Selby, Scotty Morrison, Hiria Hape and Willie Jackson.
