Callaghan uses tech to scope Te Ao Maori
Government technology promotion agency Callaghan Innovation wants to give all its staff access to Maori knowledge through their phones.
Its new app Te Pou Herenga developed by Auckland technology company Kiwa Digital includes key Maori values, concepts and protocols that allow users to improve their knowledge and understanding of te ao Maori.
Interactive features include pronunciation, maps with Maori names and tribal groups, values and principles, mihimihi / pepeha, whakatauki / proverbs, greetings, farewells, waiata, and the organisation’s own haka.
Hemi Rolleston, the general manager Maori economy, says the aim is to help all Callaghan Innovation staff build confidence, skill and awareness when engaging the Maori economy.
It also allows them to learn about the language and culture wherever it suits them, whether at work or home.
Kiwa chief executive Steven Renata says Te Pou Herenga can be customised for any organisation.
