Sheer delight as Kai Haka welcomes the stars
Ed Sheeran has finished his three-date engagement in Auckland and is heading for three more in Otepoti, but he’s feeling well welcomed.
The English singer-songwriter enjoyed his pohiri so much, he asked for an on-stage repeat.
The welcome was done by Kai Haka, whose founder Eru Wilton says a range of artists have had asked for haka pohiri or backstage haka, and he tries toi make sure they feel the wairoa.
With roots in Ngati Whatua Orakei and Ngati Maru he says it’s more than dial a haka
"We connect back to the original inhabitants of Tamaki Makaurau so for us it’s welcoming these guests under that mantle. They do feel it. Some actually have a healing event. Beyonce’s publicist, her experience, her testimony was she actually got a healing she had been looking for for over a year. Others cry and obviously Ed, he really enjoyed it," Mr Wilton says.
