Peters keen on Russia trade deal
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Winston Peters wants an improved relationship with Australia and a trade agreement.
Relations with Australia have become increasingly testy because of policies that block New Zealanders and their children across the Tasman from education, employment and welfare opportunities and make them vulnerable to deportation.
He says there has been little progress on trade with the United States, and also with another large trading bloc.
"No deal with Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia is a huge issue because they are the second biggest importer of beef and dairy products in the world so why on earth would we progress that so slowly. These sorts of things we are going to get on to and go as fast as we can," Mr Peters says.
His experience tied with the skills and attributes of Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern should help the government deliver the economic and social change it has promised.
