Māori keen to end drug war
The Green Party is welcoming a new survey showing strong Māori support for cannabis decriminalisation.
The Horizon Research poll shows 75 percent of Māori would vote to legalise cannabis for personal use if a referendum were held tomorrow.
Māori development spokesperson Marama Davidson says tangata whenua have borne the brunt of the war of drugs and are disproportionately being sent to prison for low level offences.
She says a harm reduction approach that puts the health of the community first is better, so people have access to the addiction and rehabilitation support services they need to get on their feet.
