Rotorua's Kaitiaki Adventures and Wellington's Wharewaka are among the Māori businesses in the running for this year's New Zealand Tourism Awards.
Kaitiaki Adventures, which combines white water rafting, sledging the Kaituna River and hiking Mount Tarawera with lessons about Māori values and culture, is nominated in the Māori business category as well as the sustainability award.
Also up for He Kai Kei Aku Ringa Māori Tourism Award are another Rotorua guiding company, MDA Experiences, and Wharewaka o Pōneke Enterprises.
Stray & Kohupatu Lodge, which offers a Māori experience and a stay on the shores of Lake Aniwhenua near Murupara, is in the running for a Community Engagement Award, and Kapiti Island Nature Tours chief John Barrett is nominated in the tourism champion section.
The winners will be revealed at a black-tie dinner in Christchurch on October 24.
